The Advent season begins with the lighting of the advent candles. The Sunday evening before Christmas is celebrated as the “Service of Nine Lessons & Carols” where Christmas Carols are sung and scripture portions are read out by representatives of the various guilds and fellowships of the Church. This is followed by a “Bon Fire” held in the open air in the Church Vicarage lawns, where after the fire is lit with much fanfare, the members gather in a circle to enjoy its warmth. There is lot of carol singing and games, besides a chance for members to have a fellowship with each other. The proceedings ended with dinner.
During the Christmas week the youth go caroling to the homes of the members, especially the house bound & sick ushering in the spirit of Christmas.
Last year there was also an additional service on 14th December 2008 in the evening with the theme “Joy to the world”, when Christmas carols and songs were sung by members of the Youth Fellowship of our Church and other Churches. Our Sunday school children also put up a Nativity Play. A short message was preached by our Presbyter.
The Christmas Eve Service by Candlelight draws many to the church, and is a well packed service. The church is beautifully decorated and many from other faiths visit. Local television crews too hover around to cover parts of this special service.
On Christmas Day there are the two services, the said as well as the sung eucharist, which are both well attended.
The New Year’s Eve service by Candlelight again draws a good number of worshippers. On New Year’s Day, being a working day, there is one service at 8.00 a.m., when a Covenant Service is held using a special liturgy.
